BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group grants a scholarship in the memory of Evangelos Spanos

The annual scholarship will be awarded to a postgraduate student of the School of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia 

The University of Nicosia and BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group announce the annual scholarships “in memory of Evangelos Spanos”. The initiative lies within their common goal of promoting interdisciplinarity and the inclusion in it of specialized scientific fields that respond to modern needs.

In particular, BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group offers a full scholarship annually in memory of its founder, Evangelos Spanos. The scholarship is about postgraduate programs of the School of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia, specifically Clinical Dietetics, Sports Dietetics and Biomedicine.

The scholarship was announced in a modest ceremony at the University of Nicosia and in an emotional atmosphere, on Thursday, November 3, 2022, by the President and CEO of the Group, Mr. Georgios Spanos. The founder of the Group, the late Evangelos Spanos, was honored at the event where the President of the University of Nicosia, Professor Filippos Pougioutas, and the Dean of the School of Life and Health Sciences, Professor Kyriakos Felekkis, addressed the event. During the event, the President of the University awarded an honorary plaque for Evangelos Spanos to his wife Ms. Machi Spanou and his son Mr. Georgios Spanos.

In his speech, Professor Pouyoutas talked about the two organizations, noting that they are connected by a parallel common path. “They started in the early 1980s from scratch, as two small scientific organizations. Through hard work and guidance by visionaries, they have grown into two of the largest and most successful organizations in Cyprus and Greece,” he said. He continued: “The scholarships offered by BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group will provide students the opportunity to study at one of the best universities in the world and become the best ambassadors of the two organizations, thus honoring the memory of Evangelos Spanos in the best possible way.” The President expressed his gratitude to BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group for its generous offer, highlighting that these scholarships further strengthen the student-centered approach and the scholarships offered by the University, as an investment in society and the future. 

Mr. Georgios Spanos CEO of BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group, moved by the speech, stated: “This is how the founder of the Group, my father Evangelos Spanos, began. With a scholarship from the Foundation for Government Scholarships, he found himself at Hammersmith Hospital in London, where he enriched his scientific knowledge and research skills.” Mr. Spanos emphasized that the Group supports the young people who are the science’s future with the “Evangelos Spanos” scholarship, for students of the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia. In this way, he explained, the Group helps the students chase their dreams and acquire the knowledge and skills that will develop them into worthy Health professionals in the future. 

The Dean of the School of Life and Health Sciences, Professor Kyriakos Felekkis emphasized that the collaboration of the University of Nicosia with BIOIATRIKI Healthcare Group is successful and includes research projects and scientific publications, student internships in Cyprus and Greece, radio broadcasts and employment of graduates within the Group’s premises. Finally, Professor Felekkis explained the process of selecting the scholars, which will soon be published in the press.
